Examine your heart

Deuteronomy 5:29 (King James Version)

O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

What does it mean to be a “Christian” or “God-Fearing” man or woman?  People often refer to themselves and others in this way, but let us examine this for a moment.  There are those among us who use these terms loosely.  We claim to love the Lord our God – Jesus Christ, but our everyday lives are contrary to His Will.

For example, some of us who call ourselves “Christians” curse, fornicate, drink excessively, watch pornography, gossip, display fits of anger and violence, etc.

All these things are not of God and directly against his commandments and very nature (Galatians 5:19-21).  His Word states, “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Romans 8:8).  So, if our lives reflect these fleshly things then we need to examine our walk with Christ.

He said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).  What are his commandments?  The Word of God – the Bible – is His written commandments.  In Proverbs 7:24 He says, “Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.”  He said “attend” to or pay attention to the words of His mouth.  We can only do this by studying His word.

In short, I pray that we – the church – will begin to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24).  Let our words match our actions and everyday lives.  In other words, if we say we love Him, let us show it by living a life that mirrors the very nature of God.   Jesus Christ is our example.

He said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).  Again, we do this by seeking Him and studying His word.  I would encourage everyone to join a good Bible-based church – a church that speaks and preaches from scripture to scripture.  I would also encourage you to join a weekly Bible Study.  This is where you will gain understanding and wisdom.  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”  (Psalm 111:10).  Peace~
